Buffalo Mountain Lodge, Banff

What’s better than being in Canada in winter than being in Canada and staying in a log cabin surrounded by nature! After a long few days of travel, my arrival at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge in Banff, exceeded my expectations - and not only because I had a bed to sleep on instead of someone’s couch!

Feeling completely spoilt in the Premier Room, the dim lighting created a calming atmosphere, while the in-room fireplace was the perfect touch for a cabin in the mountains.
Being able to soak in a bear-claw footed bath was the icing on the cake, because for me when travelling, this is one of the biggest luxuries.

I was lucky enough to be staying at the lodge during the opening of the Taste for Adventure, a culinary food event being held around Banff and Lake Louise, where visitors have the opportunity to eat from an incredible 3-course prix fixe menu for an incredibly affordable price. This event, which started on the 25th October runs until the 9th of November and if you attend, you also will receive 40% off one night’s accommodation (how could you even say no to that deal?!?!)

The Buffalo Lodge is located on Tunnel Mountain, making it the perfect starting place for some lovely trails in the area. I spent a day walking various trails, including visiting the Hoodoos and soaking up the views which reach Bow Valley and also the Banff Gondola. Afterwards, there was nothing better than heading back to my room after being in the cold for a few hours and putting on a fire, getting into bed and watching some television.

If you want to spend a bit of time in Banff, it’s only about a 15 minute walk to downtown or you have the option of taking the number 2 bus, which you can catch right outside the entrance of the lodge. There also is a complimentary shuttle service that will help you get down the mountain, which comes in handy when you are moving all of your luggage!

I don’t think I could mention my stay at the Buffalo Lodge without talking about the staff. Those I encountered were honestly amongst the friendliest that I have talked to, they were so helpful and made me feel so welcome. Good customer service goes a long way and the staff at Buffalo Lodge really will do everything they can to make your stay as memorable as possible.

Being Australian, I have always had an idealised image of staying in a cabin in Canada, especially in the winter and I could not have been happier about my time at Buffalo Mountain Lodge. The Lodge is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts, with lodging also available in Emerald Lake and Lake Louise – to be able to go from one to the other during your time in Alberta would be perfect!! I know that Banff is a location that I will always come back to and without a doubt, I will definitely be returning to stay at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge!
