Roys Peak and the people who get you there.

Originally submitted to Round 2 of the Discovery Channel Intern competition, 2017.

Roys Peak to me is more than just a pretty location. It signifies new friendships and the discovery of personal strength and perseverance. Having previously attempted to hike this mountain solo, and having failed due to bad weather and decreased motivation, when I finally did reach the submit I felt a massive amount of pride and happiness rush through me. Social media helps bring people together and thanks to Instagram, I was able to climb Roys Peak with a new friend. Basically strangers, we got on like a house on fire and I couldn’t have asked for a better hiking companion. In many areas in life, people often like to achieve things on their own in order to gain a sense of accomplishment. What they don’t realise, is that sometimes it takes the actions of others to help you achieve your goal. To be successful, you must help those around you succeed and in the case of this climb, truer words have never been spoken. Like the world always says, never give up. If I had decided to not hike Roys Peak again, I never would have been able to capture this spectacular view and watch the sunset over one of the best places on earth. I wouldn’t have seen myself push my body past the point of exhaustion, yet still continue to put one foot in front of the other. A mountain to some is an obstacle to climb, to others it can change their entire outlook on life.
